: "Arahaba !...
Solombodiakoho "
Pour honorer nos parents et
nos ainés ...
On the occasion of an important event for any social group (nation, society, family...) it is a time-honoured custom for the Malagasy to pay a special respect for those who are above them in terms of age or power by offering them a symbolical gift : the best morsel of a sacrificed animal (beef, mutton, chicken). For instance, the parents were given the parson's nose of the chicken. The chicken legs went to the youngest child in the
family.
|
Today, money is a practical substitute for
chicken. The use of chicken is understandably due to the fact it is within everybody's
means.
