      As the ramadan gets to its end, our boss wished to celebrate with the muslim colleagues, so we went out and bought the goat. this was nicely prepared the philippiner way with pineapple.
     I , then, asked my philippiner acquaintances how is "goat" in philippiner. oh! wonder, it is called "bign".

     that is just like "bengy", as people in the south of madagascar (vezo) call them!
     I assumed, as people from the highlands supposedly coming from the Philippines clearskined and straighthaired, would have the same vocabulary. but no, those from the south, supposedly coming from Afrika
called them "bengy" and those from the highlands "osy".
       Secondly Serge, another weird thing: we , Sihanaka , consider goat as tabu. I , personally, have been freed from that, because of the blessing I got from my father.
     Still I remember very well that first time I met a goat : it was in sabotsy-ambohimasina (a n,eighbourhood of Ambatondrazaka). A policeman or was it a justice officer attached a goat alongside the way and noone went near the goat!
     But you see, most of our amulettes are taken or made with goats' bones. I acknowledged these are tradition coming from the south , from the

      I read Emma's article with bewilderment during her passage in Ghana. She was convinced that " the Gasy is Africans ". I also wanted to say that I met African friends in Mania a fortnight ago...
       An oeucuminic church service was realized because this meeting was the meeting of all the Africans living in Mania. We prayed for the soul of a mother of an African friend 

  who died recently here.( Not only does he live here but he gets married with a philippian girl and works on the IBM).  

       I do not see the difference between the Africans and the Malagasy ! The rhythms of songs are Malagasy! People are Malagasy! According to that Emma felt, they are people of the South (photo Ampanihy). If you go to Diego-Suarez or Tamatave, the resemblance is striking. 
       I was a little bit perplexed when I really oberved the wife of one of African friends. She was Indonesienne. She was Malagasy! She was Merina! It is what incited me to ask questions to your taxi driver in Accra, Emma. If you are African, why are you white and smooth-haired ? You did not pay, the child of the Imerina, because the taxi driver was not sure of it.
       Joking aside, I was perplexed when I asked for the translation of "SOTRO" in Korean (because I lived with a Korean at home ). I was very surprised when he answered me that it was the same word in Korean !
      My thoughts went towards all the " restrained eyes " (Kify maso in Sihanaka) of my mother' s family : Korean or Chinese ? I do not talk about any current generations married 

Edito : «MINO AHO VE IANAO ?...WHO IS FREDY JAOFERA ? »

        At first, nothing lets augur that Fredy JAOFERA can become a poet and besides in the Malagasy language. 
       Indeed, from his childhood and in his youth, he knew many factors of blocking which would have been able to prevent him from making hatch his talent, in particular:

                - A problem of health
                 - The incapacity to master the Malagasy language because he was brought up in France with his small brother by his parents who were students in this country .

                 - The premature death of her mother who brought him to live with his paternal grandparents in Madagascar in an environment where they spoke only in Malagasy .
                - The attitude of a lot of people who cannot understand that his brother and he were unable to communicate in Malagasy because the language of their childhood is French 
               - The numerous criticisms which aim at destabilizing him and underestimating him in his capacity to express his talent of writer and poet in Malagasy 
               - The mockeries, and the contempt of several persons who are persuaded that he has no talent, even if he is a descendant of poet 

       Nevertheless, in spite of all these difficulties Fredy JAOFERA never loses courage. He has even doubled effort and perseverance to be able to reach his objective and his desire to become a writer and a poet in the Malagasy language.
       So, he chose to frequent schools which lavished most of these educations in Malagasy. He fed with diligence of the literature and the Malagasy culture outside these periods, which allowed to fill his delay and to complete his level.
       In definitive, he has got his bet and he has reached:
               - To publish his works in various Malagasy daily papers ( Matin, Midi, Atrika, Tribune, Hehy) and in a magazine « Ny Mpamangy »(The visitons)    
               - To participate in television and radio programs (Feom-baliha Mamatonalina which declaimed poems )
               - To spread 8 collections of poems and 6 with the Association of the Poets and Malagasy Writers in France. It is a question of: 
· Teny roa " 2 words " · Nosy mamiko " My loved island " · Ny ranomasoko " My tears " · Diavolana " Moonlight " · Iarivo " My city Antananarivo " · Roazy "Rose" · Tsetsatsetsa " spontaneous Reflection " 

      It is to indicate that Fredy Jaofera also contributed to make know his poems, the literature and the Malagasy culture in France and abroad by the way of

    Today, we are going to speak about the role of parents and about children. It is important to know it to harmonize well the relation with its circle of acquaintances, to avoid the disorders or the disputes as for the roles and the responsibilities of each but especially to strengthen a little more the family love or increase the respect and the enjoyment within a family.

           2. The role of children to parents
      The role of parents and children is not the same but complements itself. The first role of children to their parents is what God said in 10 commands: " Honor your father and your mother, as the Eternal your God ordered it to you, to enjoy a long life and live happy in the country which the Eternal your God gives you. " Deutéronome 5 16.
      God really evoked a "complete and substantial" sentence here. The first role of children is effectively to respect their source of life. The children who dare to take themselves to their parents or who grant not enough importance for their parents will not find the happiness on this earth. Respect your parents, honor them, love them, give them the blessing and you will be blessed ! Do not cause sadness to your parents because they are themselves your source of life. Iit is thanks to them you were born ; it is thanks to them you are a person.   

   The role of children to their parents is also LOVE. Children have the role and the obligation to love their sources of life. The love between parents and children strengthens enjoyment and respect. Any thing without love, remember, is source of quarrels, disorders, jealousies, underestimating and mockeries. It is the role of the children to love for giving power to the big family enjoyment.

             1.Role of parents to children
       The child was born further to the will of parents. In that case, at any time, parents have the first role to bring good and improve ceaselessly the family life; it is for the role of parents to always try to make their children grow in enjoyment, love, agreement and wisdom and that, by any means. The parents who can't give any love to their children can't be called parents !....Parents are LOVE ...Like God ! We can already say they are the front door to know God... It is their first role to their child. Love is the first guarantee to improve the relationship and develop the respect between parents and children. Love is the salt which will give taste to all we make and to clear up everything if the road turns out dark. Love is the foundation, the pillar not to be destroyed unless our parents'role sees being annihilated.

      The role of parents is also to be the PILOTE,the adviser and the proofreader ...They are not children who lived before parents, they are parents who lived before children. It is especially the role of parents to open the way to all that their children have not made yet, Advise them on all the things which they hesitate and to correct them if ever they stumble because life is not only made by good things; because life is not only the one which "goes" but the mixture of good and evil and the enchainement of " I'm all right " and " I'm not all right". It is sometimes easy to say but difficult to realize especially if we have children difficult to correct or if the environment of the country does not allow the improvement of the personality.

Our history enriches everyone’s lives. It also helps explain some of the regional differences between different regions and cultural groups. History reflects the country’s culture, it distinguishes them from other countries in regard to how they communication and exchange ideas. This is the reason why UNESCO chose May 21 as a celebration of " World day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development". 

Our belief does not impede our ability to reason or think. In fact that ability to think and reason helps us to better understand our culture. As it says in a Malagasy proverb “The truth is very thin and hard to find.” Similarly the Bible says “But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it".

They are called « mères poules » or « les mères juives » because they… "convent" their children, they want to protect them from everything, keep them "under their wings." But children should also learn to cope alone to grow.

      If there is a name we utter almost every day, is "Mom!" because she is there for us, our pain, our fears and our joys. She cries for us, pray for her children, who fit her life and create her troubles, but she is still there! And even when we are independent and have built our own way, she follows us, guides us and supports us!
           Yes, she is always there for us! And even after her death, she is always in our hearts and in our mind when we face an obstacle, we close our eyes and we ask: "Mom, you who advised me so well, what should I do?" And this love she has left in our hearts helps us through this wonderful adventure: The life that Mom gave us! "

      Many things are similar here in France and in other country even France is a developed country.
     The author believes that what distinguishes Malagasy people is that every time he talks about what is happening in Madagascar, he finds that what the Malagasy is special, not like what others are doing. Then you hear from him: what sets us apart, especially during an exchange with a stranger.

      The author notes that there are not many things that distinguish the Malagasy way of life with a French one for example. The reason is that we have copied a lot of things from French people. Clothing, seem, fashion and way of thinking.

   Such as a documentary television has reported, the Thai people are very original in his religion, his food, his funeral traditions, wedding. We ask ourselves the same question as without their language, what really sets the Malagasy. Here in France, for example, everyone recognizes an African, an Arab.

     And if you have the opportunity to visit their house or apartment, you will find that you are no longer in France because it is truly original interior, the expression of their personality.

       With regard to national way of life, developed country face similar problems than poor one.
Because everyone is facing common requirements, for example, wages, safety, the cost of living, education.

Certainly, in terms of living standards, a large gap exists. Developed countries have a big purchasing power but they do not have the happiness resulting from the possession of a lot of beautiful things. 
Both have with them their poor class, the homeless, and the collector of garbage. And in fact, they also have their upper class, their roguish their belief and their atheist.
     As believe a large number of people, the author feels the same way that the source of happiness is not the ownership of beautiful things in number. In rich country, they are not satisfied with what they have amassed, and those in poor countries who dream and want to take the moon.
     In fact, it must be said, the pursuit of happiness is a quest that should be the subject of another forum. For sure!

    Pour honorer nos parents et nos ainés ...   À Noël, Les cadeaux que donnent à cette occasion les grandes personnes aux enfants empruntent le nom de certains morceaux de volaille (noms qui littéralement veulent dire «substitut de cuisse de poulet pour les enfants»). et ce sont les enfants qui reçoivent les cadeaux contrairement au Nouvel An (jour de l'Asaramanitra) alors que tous les membres de la famille élargie doivent rendre visite aux aînés (ou aux plus âgés) de la famille pour apporter un présent afin de leur rendre hommage... le "Solombodiakoho"           0746  -  801135   04/01/2008
    On the occasion of an important event for any social group (nation, society, family...) it is a time-honoured custom for the Malagasy to pay a special respect for those who are above them in terms of age or power by offering them a symbolical gift : the best morsel of a sacrificed animal (beef, mutton, chicken). For instance, the parents were given the parson's nose of the chicken. The chicken legs went to the youngest child in the family.

   Today, money is a practical substitute for chicken. The use of chicken is understandably due to the fact it is within everybody's means.

       You moved the long distance the country! Do you remember even the traditional Christmas celebration in Madagascar? That this time seems so far away but it will be remembered with pleasure.

        Les bougies appartiennent au rituel de Noël depuis fort longtemps. Selon les régions du monde, leur signification varie.
       Parmi les décorations du temps des fêtes, la bougie de Noël s'impose par son caractère solennel. Symbole de lumière et de paix, elle est souvent offerte en cadeau, magnifiquement parée de couleurs et de sculptures.  À Marseille, les trois bougies sur la table représentent la Sainte Trinité.
En Angleterre, la longue bougie rouge décorée de houx a remplacé la bûche, et il existait même un rituel pour l'allumer. Cependant, si elle devait cesser de brûler la journée de Noël, c'était un bien mauvais signe. En Irlande, on place des bougies sur le rebord des fenêtres pour guider les Rois mages.

      Ranomafana "Little located in the valley of the Namorona, surrounded by mountains covered with a dense tropical forest. The landscape is characteristic of the often brutal transition between the highlands and the coastal fringe.

       Ranomafana is located between the countries  Betsileo and Tanala (those of the forest) owes its name to a hot springs ferruginous whose benefits in a variety of ailments ... (Late 19th century). 

Red is everywhere in the wide landscape

Rencontre Sportive Malagasy 2007 Amerique du Nord (Canada - USA) du Samedi 30 Juin 2007 - Dimanche 1 Juillet 2007...

    RSM est un événement sportif annuel tenu chaque été parmi les citoyens malgaches résidant en Amérique du Nord. 4 équipes étaient impliquées : une équipe est de la région de Washington ( Virginie,  Maryland, Washington, Delaware), une autre équipe de la région de New York (New Jersey , New York et Connecticut) ,  la troisième équipe est le Canada et la quatrième "Out of state" le regroupement de Minneapolis, Ottawa, Toronto, St Tom.     

   This year, RSM Washington DC hosted the Recontre Sportive Malagasy or RSM, which is a Malagasy sporting event held each year in North America (Canada - the USA). This successful event was organized by the RSM Washington DC Committee. Many Malagasy citizens came to support this event, including the Chargé d' affaires of the Embassy of Madagascar to the United States, Mrs Eulalie RAVELOSOA and her husband; and the Ambassador of Madagascar to the United Nations, SEM Zina RANDRIANARIVELO RAZAFY and his wife.
    The opening ceremony for RSM 2007 started at 9:00 AM on Saturday June 30th, 2007 with the “opening speech/remark” by Madam the Chargé d' affaires of the Embassy of Madagascar in the United States, followed by a traditional dance by young women and children of Washington DC, which was then followed by the “Players Parade”. 4 teams were represented at this event: Washington DC, Tri-State New York (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut), Canada, and Out of state (regrouping of Minneapolis, Ottawa, Toronto, St Tom).
Once the parade was over, the Malagasy National Anthem was sung by Iangotiana and followed in chorus by the whole 

Edito : "Maman, je t'aime et je ne t'oublierai jamais ...  "

      La Fête des mères, Cette merveilleuse idée nous vient de l'Antiquité, mais c'est seulement le 20 Mai 1950 que cette fête fera l'objet d'une loi qui institutionnalisera ce jour de Mai. Cette année nous fêtons donc la  57ème fête des mères le 3 juin . Alors, plus que jamais, bonne fête à toutes les Mamans du monde ! 

     Toutes les mamans sont en général très attentives à leurs enfants, mais certaines mères le sont beaucoup, beaucoup plus que les autres. On les appelle des "mères poules", voire « les mères juives » … car elles "couvent" leurs enfants, elles veulent les protéger de tout, les garder "sous leurs ailes". Mais les enfants doivent aussi apprendre à se débrouiller tout seuls pour grandir.

      S'il y a un nom que nous prononçons presque chaque jour, c'est "maman" ! car elle est là pour nous, nos douleurs, nos peurs et aussi nos joies. Elle pleure pour nous, prie pour nous ses enfants, qui cadrent sa vie et créent ses soucis, mais elle est toujours là! Et même quand nous sommes indépendants et avons construit notre propre chemin, elle nous suit, nous guide et nous appuie! 

          Oui, elle est toujours là pour nous! Et même après sa mort, elle est toujours dans nos coeurs, et dans notre pensée quand nous affrontons un obstacle, nous fermons les yeux et nous demandons : "Maman, toi qui me conseillait si bien, que dois-je faire?" 10 [a] A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.
13 She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family and portions for her servant girls.
16 She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers.

    L'amour est le plus beau sentiment qui dévore nos coeurs avec ardeur, surtout quand nous fermons les yeux et le paysage de ce pays nous hante et nous berce, alors l'espoir renaît que cette année sera la meilleure"

    Pour honorer nos parents et nos ainés ...
    On the occasion of an important event for any social group (nation, society, family...) it is a time-honoured custom for the Malagasy to pay a special respect for those who are above them in terms of age or power by offering them a symbolical gift : the best morsel of a sacrificed animal (beef, mutton, chicken). For instance, the parents were given the parson's nose of the chicken. The chicken legs went to the youngest child in the family.

   Today, money is a practical substitute for chicken. The use of chicken is understandably due to the fact it is within everybody's means.

Edito : "I cannot help saying that ! … "

    If you happen to call on some relative abroad, to be more precise in France, you will easily notice how knowledgeable malagasy young people are, and so in every field. Praiseworthy indeed ! But common occurrence if we take into consideration the advance of education (science and technology) widely spread over there.

  Unfortunately, apart from a few exceptions, most of those young people speak malagasy hardly, awkwardly, and are even quite unaware of their own native language. 

I am quite concerned with it but I can see the point. Most of the time the young has to move outside family circle, such as school, in which no one speaks malagasy language. 

    Therefore couldn't we parents try and speak in malagasy to our children everytime we all meet at home ? Couldn't we seize these opportunities and brush them up some malagasy customs ?

I know it is easier said than done. 

I know we have really no time to fulfil this task. Nevertheless we should get a sense of pride from our cultural  identity by speaking in malagasy or acting as our custom has it, particularly under special circumstances when we set up in foreign countries.
